World Tree

World Tree

Mythology: Nordmannic
Portfolio: Fate, Life and Death, Wisdom

The World Tree is a major god in Nordmannic mythology. It that supports all the nine worlds of gods and men. Also, the World Tree creates a branch for all things, describing its anticipated life and death.

It is different from most gods in that its worshippers have no temples, no specific rituals. Instead of doing such things, its followers promise to live out their "branch," or their allotted life, as fully and honorably as possible. As such, suicide is expressly forbidden, for it suggests the World Tree's decreed life is incorrect.

From the Books

"I spent the day examining my guilt. Though the Trickster had helped me break my oath, I still held the shame of oathbreaking. This shame filled me all the more since I had not died to fulfill the oath. Bedarth made me promise to live with that guilt. He made me swear to the World Tree that I would live and fulfill the life written for me in its branches. When I honored that promise, he poured all of his knowledge that he could into me."
